Is this evidence of a parallel universe? Sightings of a 'floating city' in China. Did parallel universe open up? Hundreds see 'floating city' filmed in skies above China. CHINESE TV news reports have told how thousands of residents in TWO areas reported separately seeing a huge city form in the skies. Onlookers, some who are said to have videoed the bizarre event, were said to be mesmerised as a towering city of sky scrapers appeared from the clouds. First thousands reportedly saw a ghostly alien city floating over Foshan in the Guangdong province of China. A few days later people in the province of Jiangxi, China, also reported seeing a similar cloud city. Many believed this was a window to a parallel universe, but weather experts said it was a known type of optical illusion. A Fata Morgana is a type of mirage that distort distance objects, and can be can be seen on land or sea. It's caused when the sun heats up the atmosphere above the land or oceans, which creates a gradient of temperatures. The air close to the surface is relatively cool and above that are layers of warmer air. When light hits a boundary between two layers of the atmosphere that are different temperatures – and as a result different densities – it bends and travels at a different angle. Our brain assumes that light travels in a straight paths, so when it bends, we think the object is where it would be if the light's path runs straight. The 2011 ghost city was seen by many Huanshan City residents who were able to take numerous clear pictures because the mysterious vision occurred well before nightfall. The images clearly showed buildings, structures and trees. What were all of these people in Foshan, Jiangxi and Huanshan City looking at? One popular explanation is a mirage. Humid air bends the reflection of the city from the cold water or air below and beams it onto the mist, causing the mirage. However, the images are usually fuzzy and these are crisp. What else could cause that?
